Pastor William F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has urged Nigerians to seek God’s intervention as the ultimate solution to the country’s worsening insecurity.
The cleric made the call on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Benue State after a courtesy visit to Governor Hyacinth Alia. He was there for a week-long Global Crusade in Gboko and Otukpo.
“God remains the ultimate solution to the nation’s challenges,” Kumuyi said. “We know that when bad things happen, there are people who are responsible for it, but the people are not the solution. God is our problem solver.”
He emphasized that Nigerians must humble themselves, repent, and turn from sin for divine help. “God is waiting for us,” he added. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and turn away from their sins, He is ready to solve their problems.”
Kumuyi’s message echoes his long-standing teachings on prayer and spiritual security. In past sermons, he has described God as a shield against terror by night and arrow by day, urging believers to trust in divine protection amid national storms.
Yet, the plea lands in a nation gripped by relentless violence. Banditry, kidnapping, and clashes continue to claim lives and displace communities across states, including Benue. Many view such calls with frustration.
Public reactions on X reflect deep skepticism. Some mocked the irony of a well-guarded pastor preaching prayer while ordinary citizens face daily threats without similar protection. Others questioned relying solely on faith when governance failures fuel the crisis.
Nigeria’s insecurity has persisted despite repeated religious interventions and government promises. Critics argue spiritual solutions alone have not curbed the bloodshed or ransom economy thriving in the shadows.
Kumuyi commended Benue’s efforts in infrastructure and education but stressed faith must complement action. His Global Crusades, targeting massive crowds, focus on salvation, healing, and transformation.
The veteran preacher has faced his own controversies, including debunked fake news reports attributing political statements to him and debates over church leadership succession. He recently rejected any family dynasty for Deeper Life.
As violence rages, many Nigerians wonder if prayers will suffice where security forces and policies have faltered. Kumuyi maintains God can deliver where human efforts fall short.
The crusade continues, drawing thousands seeking hope. Whether divine intervention will shift the tide remains to be seen in a country weary of both bullets and sermons.
