In a bold viral video circulating on social media, popular Nigerian skit maker Cute Abiola has called on cultists across the country to join the battle against insecurity.
Addressing them directly, he said, “To all the cultists in Nigeria, it’s time to know your power. It is time for all Nigerians to know your power.”
Abiola, known for his comedic skits, pleaded earnestly: “Please to all the Nigeria cultists. I use God to beg you.” He highlighted the shared terrain, noting that cultists operate in the same bushes where bandits hide.
“It is still inside the bush that you used to do your meeting, that’s the same bush the bandits are,” he stressed. “You have these weapons too. Let Nigerians be proud of you this time around.”
The comedian argued that cultism has more advantages than disadvantages and urged members to “show your power” for the nation’s sake. The message comes as banditry, kidnappings, and violence continue to plague communities, particularly in rural areas.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have been swift and divided. Some view the appeal as a desperate cry reflecting public frustration with security forces, while others question the wisdom of empowering criminal groups.
This is not Abiola’s first brush with controversy. He previously faced potential police prosecution over skits mimicking officers and was reportedly threatened by cultists during Mohbad’s funeral in Ikorodu.
Critics argue his latest call risks glorifying violence rather than condemning it outright. In a country battling multifaceted insecurity, enlisting one set of armed actors against another raises serious ethical and practical concerns.
As the video gains traction, many Nigerians watch to see if it sparks any real discourse or action on the security crisis. Abiola’s plea underscores the depth of despair felt by citizens tired of endless bloodshed.
