RCCG has fired back at social media user M.E Bello after he challenged the church's General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, to lead another protest.
"Now that I have your attention, church social media handler; Has the G.O grown too old now to lead another protest or it's just table manners?" Bello posted on X.
The official RCCG account responded bluntly: "An 84 year old man should go lead a protest for your own future ?....You are not ready."
The exchange highlights growing frustration with the revered cleric's perceived silence on pressing national issues like insecurity and economic hardship.
Pastor Adeboye, born March 2, 1942, turned 84 this year. He has previously led prayer walks against insecurity, including a notable one in 2020.
Critics, however, accuse the church of shielding the administration due to First Lady Remi Tinubu's ties to RCCG. TikToker Mama G recently rained curses on Adeboye and his family, claiming he canceled a planned members' protest over this connection.
RCCG has dismissed such claims, urging verification of information. Yet public backlash persists, with questions about why the influential church appears reluctant to confront current challenges as it did in past regimes.
The response to Bello has drawn mixed reactions online. Some defend the G.O.'s age and legacy, while others call it dismissive of young Nigerians bearing the brunt of governance failures.
This latest episode adds to existing controversies surrounding Adeboye, including past doctrinal statements and allegations of political favoritism. At 84, the expectation for him to storm the streets like a younger activist tests the limits of public reverence.
The church maintains focus on spiritual guidance over street activism. But for many followers demanding action, the retort feels like an evasion rather than engagement.
