Gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori has stirred controversy with her comments on Nigeria's worsening insecurity crisis.
During a live session on June 1, 2026, the popular artist addressed recent abductions, including incidents in Oyo State.
"You can’t say the president and vice president are not working, they are working, even the security personnel. That’s why we need prayers," she stated.
Alaseyori went further in her defense of the government. "From the first person, from the President to the last person in this country, we all need prayers," she added.
She argued that leaders are doing their part. "You can’t say that the President or the Vice President are not doing what they have to do. They are working. You can’t say they are not working."
The singer suggested spiritual intervention is key. She claimed security agents sometimes enter forests but "something will just cover their eyes and won’t allow them see the terrorist."
This, she said, is where prayers come in to support operations.
Her remarks come as Nigerians grapple with frequent kidnappings and banditry under the current administration. Many have criticized the government for failing to curb the violence despite promises.
Social media reactions have been harsh. Users accused her of deflecting from leadership failures by pushing prayer as a solution while citizens suffer.
Some called it tone-deaf, especially amid public demands for better security rather than more spiritual appeals. Others questioned why gospel artists seem quick to defend politicians.
Alaseyori has faced past backlash, including alleged death threats over her public stances. Yet she remains vocal in her faith-based approach to national issues.
The statement highlights deep divisions in how Nigerians view solutions to insecurity. While some appreciate the call to prayer, many demand tangible action over words of encouragement.
As the debate rages, her comments underscore the tension between faith and governance in addressing the country's challenges.
