Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has defended President Bola Tinubu against accusations of not doing enough to tackle Nigeria's insecurity.
The cleric made the remarks at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C.
“When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit,” Adeboye stated.
“You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight.”
Adeboye argued that blaming the president personally for persistent security challenges is unfair. He compared it to practices in other nations, including the United States.
The respected pastor noted he had privately discussed the security situation with relevant authorities. However, he stressed that citizens can only advise the commander-in-chief, not command him.
This latest comment comes weeks after Adeboye urged swift government action during a Holy Ghost Service. He called for security chiefs to eliminate terrorists and their influential sponsors within 90 days or resign.
“Move fast and tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” he had advised.
He further recommended giving clear orders to target not just fighters but also their backers, regardless of status.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) reflect mixed views. Some users praised Adeboye's balanced stance, while others questioned the timing and consistency with past criticisms of previous administrations.
The cleric reiterated his role as a fatherly voice, emphasizing the sanctity of human lives amid worsening insecurity reports across regions.
