Renowned Nigerian music video director TG Omori recently opened up about a pivotal moment in his career.
During an interview with Odira Ndubuaku on YouTube, Omori recounted his first close encounter with Burna Boy at an Abuja concert.
He was in Abuja with a female rapper friend, Dammy, who was scheduled to perform as an opener. Burna Boy headlined the show.
Backstage chaos ensued due to traffic delays. As Burna Boy approached the stage, the crowd shifted focus entirely.
Omori described the scene: “Everybody was shouting. I was just standing there. People think I was starstruck. No, I wasn’t.”
He continued, “I was just in my head. I was like, ‘Oh, okay, it’s possible.’ This is not a human being. This is a man like me. It’s very possible.”
That night, sleep evaded him. At 6 a.m., he stood by the window, watching the sunrise. “This is going to be my last year as an ordinary person,” he declared to himself.
The encounter fueled his drive. By 2019, Omori’s career surged with hits like Naira Marley’s “Am I a Yahoo Boy.”
Reactions on X highlight the motivational impact. Many users praised the director’s mindset shift from observer to peer.
Omori has since directed videos for major artists including Burna Boy, solidifying his status in the industry.
The interview underscores themes of inspiration, timing, and self-belief in Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
