Emmanuel Obasi, former husband of Nollywood actress Judy Austin, has responded to critics following a viral video of his emotional interview.
In the clip, Obasi addressed public focus on his use of a handkerchief rather than the substance of his message.
“I want to make it clear, I’m not crying for a woman. I have a wife,” he said. “I’m crying for my children, which I’ve been trying my best to make sure I have a relationship with them.”
Obasi expressed frustration at the reactions. “Nigerian men should be very careful. Imagine your fellow man coming out to cry that he wants to see his children, and you people are busy looking at my handkerchief,” he added. “What concerns my handkerchief with what I am crying about?”
The comments follow his recent appearance on a podcast where he broke down in tears. Obasi claimed he has not seen the couple’s two children, now teenagers, in over a decade.
He identified the children as Adeze and Chidera, and recounted details of his past marriage to Judy Austin, whose real name he gave as Judith Uche Chukumo Ogalo.
Obasi alleged the marriage faced challenges, including Judy’s admiration for actor Yul Edochie during their time together. He has maintained that his primary concern remains access to his children.
The saga has sparked divided reactions online. Some sympathize with a father seeking reconnection, while others question timelines and narratives from both sides.
Judy Austin has previously denied denying him access and stated their marriage ended in 2013, with her meeting Yul years later.
Obasi’s latest statement underscores his focus on fatherhood amid the public discourse. The matter continues to draw attention as parties present differing accounts.
