Nigerian singer Brymo has stirred controversy with strong remarks on the dominance of top Afrobeats stars. In a recent appearance on TVC's *Wake Up Nigeria*, he urged Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy to make way for the next generation.
The comments surfaced prominently on June 16, 2026. Brymo criticized the "Big 3" narrative, accusing established acts of attempting to lock down the industry.
He argued that some veterans are not evolving. This, he said, crowds out younger talents scoring hits but lacking opportunities.
Brymo specifically praised Rema. "Rema should be the biggest pop star in the country without any doubt," he stated.
In detailed excerpts from the interview, Brymo said: "There are some artistes trying to lock down the industry call themselves the BIG 3 or Big 4. They want to reign forever more... So what happens to the 22-year olds scoring hits at home and have no opportunity to do more because the space is crowded and we have these old guys that are not evolving? They should shift aside, leave the mainstream alone for young people."
He added pointedly: "All this talk about Wizkid, 2Face, Olamide, Burna Boy. Why? In the Pop scene?? Wetin dem dey sing? You can plug the radio but nobody likes your stuff anymore. Move aside, evolve."
Reactions on X have been mixed. Some users supported the call for fresh energy in Afrobeats, while others accused Brymo of bitterness or dismissed the idea that the OGs should retire.
The remarks highlight ongoing debates about legacy, relevance, and generational shift in Nigeria's thriving music industry. No responses from the named artistes have been reported yet.
