Nigerian singer Famous Pluto has shared insights into the early days of his elder brother Shallipopi’s music pursuits. In a recent interview, he described the sacrifices and troubles that marked their family’s path.
“Shallipopi used to get into a lot of trouble. He’d wear our mom’s clothes to perform at shows and lectures,” Famous Pluto said.
The comment, which has gone viral on social media, sheds light on the brothers’ humble beginnings in Benin City. Shallipopi, alongside Zerrydl and later Famous Pluto, navigated a tough environment while chasing their passion.
Famous Pluto noted that he and Shallipopi often left home without returning promptly, unlike Zerrydl who stayed closer to their mother. Zerrydl began rapping around 2014, with Shallipopi joining soon after.
The Uzama brothers, signed under Plutomania Records, have built a shared sound often described as “Lamba.” Shallipopi is credited with pioneering elements of their style.
Their mother’s reaction when Famous Pluto expressed interest in music was one of surprise. “First thing wey my mama talk na ‘you sabi sing too?’” he recalled in earlier interviews.
Despite early hurdles, including Shallipopi’s well-documented legal issues in the past, the family has supported each other’s careers. The brothers frequently collaborate and celebrate milestones together.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have been largely positive, with fans praising the brothers’ bond and Shallipopi’s determination to pave the way. Many viewed the anecdote as endearing rather than controversial.
The story underscores the resilience behind their rise in the Afrobeats scene. Famous Pluto’s debut projects continue to gain traction, building on the foundation laid by his siblings.
