Gospel singer Victoria Orenze has ignited fresh debate in Nigeria's entertainment and faith circles with a scathing critique of the country's leadership.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Orenze questioned claims that the government is performing effectively.
"Which government is working, which government?????? Nigerian government, politicians and leaders have failed Nigeria and Nigerians!! Period!!!" she declared.
The outburst appears to be a direct response to fellow gospel artiste Adeyinka Alaseyori's recent comments. Alaseyori had defended President Bola Tinubu's administration amid public outrage over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Orenze expressed deep disappointment in certain ministers and churchgoers. She accused them of exploiting the name of the Lord for profit.
"Those who don't hear GOD but yet want to speak on HIS behalf! Whenever a few are benefitting from a government they say the government is working, because they don't care about the good of the majority of Nigerians, they only care about their pockets and stomach!!!!" she wrote.
Her message struck a chord with many frustrated Nigerians facing persistent insecurity. Orenze emphasized that God cannot be mocked and does not support selfishness, wickedness, greed, pretense, hypocrisy, and all round evil.
The timing of her post coincides with heightened tensions following the May 15 abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Gunmen took around 46 pupils and teachers, killing one. Many victims remain missing weeks later, sparking protests and teacher strikes.
Alaseyori had urged more prayers during an Instagram live session. She insisted the president, vice president, and security forces are working hard, suggesting spiritual forces might hinder visible results.
Her remarks drew heavy backlash online, with critics accusing her of insensitivity and defending failure at a time when citizens demand accountability and action.
Orenze's post pulled no punches. She warned that a government failing to protect its children swiftly is wicked and has failed woefully.
"We are extremely close to ENOUGH IS ENOUGH BUS. STOP. We are praying and yet we will speak!! Nigerians prepare for landing," she added.
The exchange highlights deeper divisions within Nigeria's gospel music community. While some ministers align closely with political figures, others like Orenze prioritize speaking truth to power.
Orenze has a history of addressing national issues through worship and prophecy. Her "My Nigeria" track reflects yearning for a better nation under God's vision.
Public reactions on X and other platforms have been mixed but largely supportive of Orenze's stance. Many users echoed her frustration with leaders who prioritize personal benefits over public welfare.
This latest controversy underscores ongoing public discontent with governance amid economic hardship and insecurity. As families await the safe return of abducted children, calls for tangible results over prayers alone continue to grow louder.
Orenze concluded by standing firmly with God against evil and the wickedness of heartless leaders. Her message serves as a reminder that faith and accountability are not mutually exclusive in Nigeria's challenging reality.
