Controversial Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho has openly challenged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, questioning why permission has not been granted for him to rescue victims kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a viral video statement circulating on social media, Igboho expressed frustration over the delay. “I’m not asking for money. Governor Seyi Makinde knows I have the capacity to rescue the Oriire kidnapped victims, why hasn't he granted me permission?” he said.
He continued, “I established 'Iru Ekun' Security Network with FG approval, but state government disapproved. I don’t have children in Nigeria that no one can kidnap. I’m only doing this because of the love I have for the Nation.”
The comments come amid heightened tensions following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers in Esiele community, Oriire LGA. One teacher was reportedly killed during the incident.
Igboho insists his network, which he claims has Federal Government backing, is battle-ready to flush out bandits and kidnappers from Southwest forests. He has pledged collaboration with police, DSS, Army, and other agencies while complying with Makinde’s executive order regulating private security outfits.
However, the state government has not publicly responded to his latest plea. Critics on X accuse Igboho of playing politics, noting his past support for certain leaders and history of ethnic agitations.
Igboho’s offer has sparked mixed reactions. Some residents welcome vigilante involvement in the face of insecurity, while others express concerns over unregulated groups operating outside state control.
This development highlights ongoing friction between the activist and Oyo authorities. Igboho’s history includes leading evictions of Fulani herders and facing accusations of inciting tensions, for which he was once declared wanted by the federal government before later reconciliation.
As pressure mounts on Governor Makinde to secure the victims’ release, Igboho’s bold challenge adds another layer of controversy to the crisis. No immediate rescue update has emerged from official channels.
