A Warri chief has ignited fresh controversy with scathing remarks directed at Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. In a viral video circulating since June 5, 2026, the traditional leader questioned her involvement in Delta State matters.
"The First Lady Remi Tinubu is sitting in Abuja there. Instead of her being busy about taking care of her husband in the kitchen, she is busy interfering in the affairs of Warri," he stated.
The chief did not stop there. He highlighted the nation's security challenges, pointing to child kidnappings in Osun State and northern Nigeria. "As a mother she has no no no feeling. Is that the woman who comes and save a mother?" he asked.
He further declared that the First Lady "has no place in the presidency" and should focus on her family responsibilities. "We are not mincing words at this point. We are tired," the chief added, expressing frustration over perceived interference linked to her recent ties with the Warri Kingdom.
This outburst comes months after the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, conferred the title of Utukpa-Oritse on Tinubu in February 2026, recognizing her contributions to women’s empowerment. Her acceptance speech in the Itsekiri dialect had drawn attention at the time.
Reactions on social media have been sharply divided. Some praised the chief’s boldness in addressing local grievances, while others condemned the comments as misogynistic and outdated. The remarks have amplified existing debates around the First Lady’s public role and influence.
Critics have tied the criticism to broader issues of governance and insecurity under the current administration. No official response from the First Lady’s office has been issued yet as the video continues to trend.
