Nigerian media personality and influencer Similoluwa Olusanya Dapson, popularly known as Simi Dapson, has addressed critics questioning her approach to domestic duties in her marriage.

In a recent video conversation with fashion designer Veekee James, Simi revealed she does not know her husband Femi Dapson’s favourite soup. She explained that since their marriage, they often order food instead.

The comments triggered heated discussions online, with some accusing her of failing traditional expectations of a wife. Others viewed it as a modern partnership.

Simi took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond directly. “It’s actually such a non issue if I don’t cook and we choose to order food. Emphasis on ‘we’ it’s always a joint decision. It has never been a problem and I cook sometimes too,” she wrote.

“My husband is a really great cook so he does cook sometimes. Just do what works for your marriage,” she added, ending with a red heart emoji.

The couple, who tied the knot in a court wedding earlier this year followed by traditional ceremonies, has been open about their relationship. Femi Dapson, a film producer, and Simi have shared glimpses of their life that often spark conversations.

Critics on X were blunt. Some warned that another woman could step in to cook, calling it a potential red flag. Others mocked her admission as setting a poor example for younger women.

Supporters, however, praised the transparency and emphasis on teamwork over rigid gender roles. Simi has previously addressed similar scrutiny, including claims about cohabiting before marriage, which she firmly denied.

This latest exchange highlights ongoing tensions in Nigeria between evolving marital dynamics and cultural expectations. Simi maintains their arrangement works for them, with both partners contributing as needed.

As newlyweds still navigating public life, the Dapsons continue to face intense online judgment. Simi shows little sign of yielding to pressure, urging couples to prioritise what suits their unique union.
