Nigerian life coach Solomon Buchi has strongly criticized popular YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife Ashley for terminating their pregnancy upon learning their unborn baby had Down syndrome.
The couple, known online as McJuggerNuggets, shared the “very difficult decision” on Instagram Stories earlier this week after amniocentesis results confirmed Trisomy 21.
Buchi did not hold back in his response. “Aborting a child because they have Down syndrome is deeply wrong,” he stated. He questioned why the principle of equal human dignity does not extend to babies with disabilities.
“If we truly believe that every human being deserves equal dignity and value, regardless of race, sex, or any other characteristic, why should that principle not extend to babies with disabilities?” Buchi added. “Every life has worth. Rest in peace, little one.”
His comments frame the couple’s choice as rooted in eugenics, comparing selective termination to discriminatory practices. Buchi argued it reflects a desire for “desirable traits” rather than compassion.
The announcement triggered intense backlash. Ridgway reported receiving death threats and harsh criticism, with some calling the decision “evil.”
On X, reactions remain divided. Supporters of Buchi emphasize the sanctity of life, while others defend the parents’ right to choose amid lifelong care challenges and potential health issues.
Ridgway has pushed back, noting high termination rates for such diagnoses and defending their informed decision after consulting experts.
The controversy highlights deeper societal tensions around abortion, disability rights, and parental expectations. Buchi’s intervention adds a moral voice to an already heated global discussion.
As reactions continue to pour in, the case underscores how personal choices in private medical matters quickly become public battles over ethics and humanity.
