Eyiyemi Afolayan, the 20-year-old daughter of popular Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, has sparked online conversations with her frank comments on relationships.
The rising actress made the remarks during a recent interview with BBC News Yoruba.
“I can’t build with a man. Some men are ingrates,” she stated. Eyiyemi explained that she prefers a partner who is already established.
She noted that building from scratch could lead to issues later. “If I marry a man that doesn’t have money and see money, he will stay with me not because he loves me but because he doesn’t have the money to be going around,” she added.
Born into wealth, Eyiyemi stressed that any man who wants to marry her must be doing something for himself. She can support but not fully provide for a partner.
On polygamy, she drew clear boundaries. “I can’t be a second or third wife for any man. Polygamous home comes with a lot of problems,” Eyiyemi said. She accepts it for her father but rejects it personally.
The interview, which surfaced on June 24, quickly spread across social media. Reactions have been mixed.
Some users praised her honesty and self-awareness. Others criticized her stance as entitled. Posts on X highlighted debates on gender roles and financial expectations in marriage.
One viral post quoted her directly and drew thousands of views. Online discussions continue to reflect broader conversations about modern relationships in Nigeria.
Eyiyemi, known for her role in Anikulapo, has largely kept her personal views private until now. Her comments offer insight into her perspective shaped by family background.
The story has generated interest in celebrity family dynamics and individual choices.
