The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has concluded that rape allegations made by TikToker Mirabel were false and fabricated. Officials found no evidence of assault or any suspect to pursue.
Abigeal Nsikak, popularly known as Mirabel, made the claims in February 2026. She alleged a stranger broke into her apartment in Ogijo, Ogun State, and assaulted her. The story quickly went viral on TikTok, sparking widespread concern and calls for justice.
Investigations by the Ogun State Police Command revealed inconsistencies in her account. Phone records, messages, and statements did not support the claims. Mirabel later admitted in recorded conversations that parts of the story were not accurate.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi had earlier described the matter as one of national importance. He warned that giving false information to authorities is a criminal offence with consequences.
Following thorough review, the Ministry of Justice determined there was no threat to public safety. No offender was identified after extensive probes.
Instead of arrest or prosecution, authorities opted for compassion. Mirabel has been placed under the care of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for psychosocial rehabilitation. She is reportedly responding positively and preparing for examinations.
The decision has drawn mixed reactions online. Some praised the focus on welfare for a young woman facing personal challenges. Others called for stronger accountability regarding false allegations to protect genuine victims.
Meanwhile, the state continues efforts on other cases, including a separate gang rape incident in Ibogun where arrests have been made.
