Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opined that the late Alex Ekubo should not have hidden his marriage from the public.
The veteran shared his views following the emergence of photos and videos of Ekubo's wife after the actor's service of songs.
Ekubo, who passed away recently, reportedly married Anuli Amakom in a private ceremony in 2023. The union remained largely unknown until after his death.
In a public statement, Edochie addressed the matter directly. "He shouldn't have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn't necessary," he said.
Edochie continued: "People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life people must talk. So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog."
He added that to be great in life, one must "never make yourself small for anyone or any reason. Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life."
The comments have sparked mixed reactions online. Many fans and observers noted the irony given Edochie's own public marital controversies.
Ekubo's decision to keep his personal life private drew scrutiny after his passing. Social media users questioned why the actor, previously open about his relationship with ex-fiancée Fancy Acholonu, chose secrecy this time.
Supporters argue that privacy protected his wife from unnecessary attention. Others believe public figures owe transparency to their audience.
Edochie's remarks come amid ongoing conversations about celebrity privacy in Nigeria's entertainment industry.
The late actor's family and close associates have urged restraint in discussing his widow. They emphasize her desire for continued privacy during mourning.
Industry colleagues have paid tributes to Ekubo, highlighting his talent and reserved nature. His passing has prompted reflections on mental health, relationships, and the pressures of fame.
Edochie's full quote has been widely shared across platforms, amplifying the conversation. It serves as a reminder that criticism often persists irrespective of one's choices.
The Nollywood community continues to mourn Ekubo while navigating the revelations surrounding his private marriage.
