Media personality Daniel Regha has sparked fresh debate by calling out Afrobeats superstar Wizkid for his silence on national issues under President Bola Tinubu’s government.
In a post on X on May 31, 2026, Regha argued that Wizkid deserves stronger criticism than Davido for remaining quiet. He highlighted the singer’s past relentless attacks on former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Wizkid should be called out even more than Davido for his deliberate silence all these years,” Regha wrote. He noted Wizkid shifted from cursing out Buhari nonstop to ignoring problems now that “his own person (Tinubu) is in power.”
Regha added that Buhari’s regime “wasn’t this bad,” claiming Tinubu’s administration is “significantly worse.” He pointed to double standards and hypocrisy.
The critic questioned why artists seek to claim Fela Kuti’s mantle of activism while staying silent on pressing matters like insecurity.
Davido, by contrast, faced intense public pressure and backlash for initial quietness on recent issues. He eventually posted expressing heartbreak over the situation, admitting entertainers have fallen short. His response drew mixed reactions, with some accusing him of selective engagement tied to political connections.
Regha’s comments have ignited discussions across social media. Supporters of Wizkid defend his focus on music, while critics accuse him of tribal bias and selective outrage, referencing old tweets where he called Buhari a “failure” and urged him to resign.
The exchange underscores ongoing scrutiny of celebrities’ roles in Nigeria’s socio-political discourse. Many Nigerians expect stars to use their platforms consistently, especially amid economic hardship and security challenges.
Regha’s blunt assessment adds to the rivalry narrative between Wizkid and Davido camps, exposing deeper questions of accountability in the entertainment industry. As debates rage, the incident highlights the high bar set for public figures in turbulent times.
