The Federal Government has announced that before the end of August, it will reach out to about 2,119,000 Nigerian households with a new round of intervention under the National Social Safety Nets Programme.
Speaking on the planned disbursement, officials explained that the National Social Safety Office (NASSCO) is currently harvesting data of vulnerable Nigerians from the National Social Register, focusing on those in the lowest economic category.
According to the update, a total of ₦54.9 billion will be released to beneficiaries across the country, in addition to earlier distributions that have already reached nearly 6 million Nigerians.
The distribution has so far reflected the country’s poverty demographics: 71% of the funds have gone to the northern region, where vulnerability is highest, while 29% has gone to the south.
To strengthen transparency and accountability, this new phase will be carried out publicly. Press briefings will be held, and state-by-state breakdowns of beneficiaries and allocations will be made available for verification. Officials added that even international partners such as the World Bank can confirm the figures.
Each beneficiary household is expected to receive ₦75,000, disbursed in three tranches of ₦25,000 each within short intervals. Authorities stressed that while some may dismiss ₦75,000 as insufficient, it remains a significant relief for millions of Nigerians facing hardship.
