Former governor says Nigerians across regions are united by demand for change, not sectional politics
Former Sokoto State governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed claims that the push to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 is a northern conspiracy.
Tambuwal, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressed that opposition to the current administration is not driven by regional politics but by a collective national yearning for better governance.
According to him, the growing dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s leadership reflects concerns shared by Nigerians in all geopolitical zones, who are grappling with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and worsening living conditions.
“The desire to change the present leadership is not a northern agenda. It is a national consensus,” Tambuwal said. “Nigerians, regardless of where they come from, want a government that can deliver security, economic stability, and inclusiveness.”
He further noted that attempts to paint the movement for change as a sectional ploy were mere political tactics aimed at dividing the electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say Tambuwal’s remarks signal growing momentum within the opposition as parties begin early alignments and strategies to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
