Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has found herself at the center of a storm after a TikTok video falsely claimed she was among five Nigerian celebrities living with HIV. The clip, shared in July by content creator Olaoluwa Segun, quickly went viral on TikTok and Instagram, sparking heated gossip, debate, and even public health warnings from the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency.
The actress, who has long been outspoken on issues of stigma and health awareness, did not let the scandal slide. Instead, she took a firm stand. On September 15, 2025, she posted an updated HIV test result on her Instagram page. The document was clear and carried the exact date, putting to rest any speculation about her health. In her caption, she reminded fans and critics alike of her earlier awareness campaign in 2019, where she also shared a negative test result.

The TikTok video had not only named Dayo Amusa but also mentioned other unnamed celebrities, creating a wave of curiosity on social media. Keywords like “Dayo Amusa HIV test,” “Nigerian celebrities with HIV rumour,” and “TikTok scandal in Nollywood” became hot search trends overnight. Fans flooded Google and X (formerly Twitter) with questions about whether the actress really had HIV, and whether the viral content could be trusted.
While some gossip platforms fanned the flames, serious news outlets highlighted the dangers of misinformation. The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency issued a strong statement on July 20, warning the public about the harm such fake claims could cause. The agency emphasized that spreading unverified information about HIV only fuels stigma and discourages people from seeking testing.
After the backlash, Olaoluwa Segun, the TikToker behind the video, released an emotional apology. He admitted that the video was misleading, claimed he had no malicious intent, and said he only reposted old content that was misinterpreted. He also revealed he spent two days in custody at Yaba Panti police station after Dayo filed a petition. His account of the police detention added another layer of drama to the unfolding scandal, quickly spreading across blogs and YouTube channels.
In a twist that melted hearts, Dayo Amusa chose forgiveness over bitterness. She shared that she had met with Segun’s family and learned he had recently lost a loved one. In her words, holding on to anger would only add to his pain. This gesture, combined with her decision to drop further action, earned her praise from both fans and fellow Nollywood stars. Search terms like “Dayo Amusa forgives TikToker” and “Dayo Amusa updated HIV test September 15” kept trending as the story developed.
The scandal has since become a major talking point not just in Nollywood gossip but also in wider conversations about celebrity privacy, social media accountability, and the responsibility of content creators. For many, it is a reminder that while gossip can drive clicks, words have real consequences on human lives.
With her dignity intact and the truth firmly on record, Dayo Amusa has turned a potentially damaging scandal into a moment of strength. She managed to silence the rumour mill, educate her audience, and still show grace to the very person who tried to drag her name. For a Nollywood star often in the spotlight, this may just be one of her most powerful performances yet.
