Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has issued a stern warning to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) President regarding a planned protest in Ibadan.
The activist claimed he received a tip about thugs being deployed to the protest ground at Iwo Road Terminal 1. He specifically mentioned the NANS President as a potential figure behind the move.
“I just got a tip that some thugs would be sent to our protest ground in Ibadan today. I heard they’ll send the NANS president and he usually comes with guns and all,” VeryDarkMan stated in a video circulating on social media.
He added, “I swear to God, if you disrupt our protest today, we will stone you, and it’s not a joke.” The message was directed at preventing any interference with the demonstration.
The protest forms part of broader actions against rising insecurity in Oyo State, particularly following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. VeryDarkMan and supporters have been vocal in demanding government action.
This warning follows earlier controversies in Ibadan. Reports indicate that on June 2, 2026, a group allegedly led by NANS President Akinteye Babatunde, also known as Babtee, and a gubernatorial aide disrupted a teachers' protest.
Witnesses accused the group of using firearms, damaging vehicles, assaulting protesters, and harassing journalists. Police were said to have watched without intervening.
Babtee has faced backlash over these events, including questions about his legitimacy as a student leader. Critics, including members of the Take It Back Movement, confronted him publicly, arguing he lacks a valid matriculation number.
NANS has also drawn criticism for appointing individuals linked to the alleged attacks to key positions within the body.
VeryDarkMan’s protest activities have gained traction nationwide. He recently led demonstrations in Abuja focusing on insecurity, shifting chants to target bandits and kidnappers directly while calling for the release of abducted persons.
Reactions to his latest warning have been mixed on social media. Some users pledged support and urged readiness to protect the protest, while others expressed concerns about potential violence.
Authorities in Oyo State are yet to issue an official statement on the latest warning or planned activities. The protest continues to highlight public frustration with persistent abductions and banditry across the region.
