BBNaija star Angel Smith has publicly criticized celebrity fashion designer Luminee for welcoming a child with Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.
The actor was convicted in July 2022 by a Lagos High Court for sexual assault and indecent treatment of a minor. He served a five-year sentence, which was affirmed in part by the Court of Appeal.
Baba Ijesha was released from prison in November 2025 after completing his term. Months later, he and Luminee announced the birth of their son, King Kagar Omiyinka.
Angel took to social media to express strong disapproval. “How can you as a woman, have a baby with this person knowing his crime,” she stated.
She continued: “You had a CHILD with someone who committed such a visceral crime to another child.” Angel added the Igbo prayer: “Ka Chineke chebe anyi ka ekwensu ghara iduba anyi n'olulu, ha.”
The remarks quickly circulated on platforms like X and Instagram, drawing mixed reactions. Some users supported Angel's stance on child protection, while others questioned her judgment and personal life.
Luminee, a prominent stylist, confirmed the baby's arrival alongside Baba Ijesha. The couple shared joyful posts celebrating their new addition to the family.
The timing of the child's conception, reportedly during the actor's incarceration when conjugal visits are restricted in Nigerian prisons, fueled additional online speculation and debate.
Baba Ijesha's case involved allegations concerning a minor linked to comedienne Princess. The court found him guilty on multiple counts related to indecent treatment and assault, though some charges were discharged.
His release in late 2025 triggered fresh discussions, with some colleagues like Yomi Fabiyi claiming broader exoneration, a narrative rejected by Lagos State authorities who clarified he served his full affirmed sentence.
Public discourse has highlighted tensions between personal redemption, family choices, and societal responsibility toward past offenders, particularly in cases involving minors.
Critics of Luminee's decision emphasize concerns for child welfare, while supporters argue for privacy and second chances after punishment.
Angel’s intervention has amplified the controversy, positioning her comments as a focal point in the ongoing conversation.
No further statements from Luminee or Baba Ijesha addressing Angel's criticism have been reported as of this writing.
