Davido has strongly criticised Hausa praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara following the latter’s condemnation of the Afrobeats star’s public call for the release of abducted schoolchildren.

The incident traces back to June 10, when Davido performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles. He wore a customised jacket featuring “Bring Them Home” and the names of over 40 schoolchildren and teachers abducted on May 15 in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

Rarara, known for his alignment with the ruling APC, posted a video on his verified Facebook page criticising the gesture. He described Davido’s action as “barbaric.”

“I do not usually reply or react to issues like this, but what Davido did was barbaric,” Rarara said. “In my opinion, Davido and those who share his way of thinking are only behaving foolishly.”

He questioned the decision to project a national security issue internationally. “How can you promote Ansaru terrorists or insecurity-related issues to the whole world? How can you take a sensitive national security issue and project it to the world in a way that could damage the country’s image?” Rarara asked.

Rarara further suggested the move was politically motivated, linking it to Davido’s family ties and elections. He compared it to exposing one’s mother’s private matters abroad.

Davido responded swiftly on social media. He mocked Rarara’s pronunciation with “Debidooo” and shared a detailed statement in Hausa.

In the open letter, Davido stated: “Useless man @daudakahuturarara. Da farko, duk wanda yake da kishin Najeriya ba zai yi shiru kan matsalar rashin tsaro da ke addabar ƙasa ba...” He emphasised that patriotic Nigerians should not remain silent on insecurity.

The full translated response urged citizens to voice concerns without prioritising politics over national welfare and to fear God in their actions.

The exchange has sparked widespread reactions on X and other platforms, with many users supporting Davido’s advocacy while others aligned with Rarara’s view on national image. Northern voices, including singer Mr 442, distanced themselves from Rarara’s stance.

Public discourse highlights deep divisions along political and ethnic lines regarding how insecurity should be addressed domestically and internationally. No further statements from either party have been issued as reactions continue to trend.
