Socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has declared his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the APC remains firm despite losing his bid for a House of Representatives seat in Imo State.
In a recent statement, he said: Ć¢ā¬ÅMy support for Tinubu is something thatĆ¢ā¬ā¢s not shakeable because I had to take a proper look at the achievements of APC in my state. I could actually do better if IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m on the table where these decisions are being made. But now that I didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t win, I can support whoĆ¢ā¬ā¢s there.Ć¢ā¬Ā
The nightlife entrepreneur joined the APC and contested the primaries earlier this month but fell short. He had previously served as Special Adviser to Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma and worked for Peter Obi in 2023 before switching allegiance.
Chief Priest argued that his decision stems from observed governance outcomes rather than ethnic loyalty. He has faced intense backlash from some Southeast voices who view his Tinubu support as betrayal, especially after earlier comments suggesting only an Igbo president could fix Nigeria.
Critics on social media accuse him of opportunism, chasing access to power and resources. Some highlight his past as a barman who leveraged connections with figures like Davido and now Seyi TinubuĆ¢ā¬ā¢s circle.
The socialiteĆ¢ā¬ā¢s political journey has not been without personal controversies. He continues to battle public scrutiny over alleged baby mama issues with a Kenyan woman, claims he dismisses as plots to destabilize his marriage.
Despite the primary loss, Seyi Tinubu offered words of encouragement, sending a motivational message about turning setbacks into victories. Chief Priest maintains his commitment to the ruling party ahead of 2027.
His stance underscores a pragmatic approach many politicians adoptĆ¢ā¬ābacking incumbents to stay relevant. Whether this loyalty yields influence remains to be seen in NigeriaĆ¢ā¬ā¢s volatile political landscape.
