Bishop Funke Felix-Adejumo has delivered a strong message to women, declaring that those who depend completely on their husbands for all spending are "a waste."
The renowned preacher and bishop made the remarks as guest speaker at the “Women of Greater Height” programme organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Everlasting Covenant Zone, FCT 11, over the weekend.
She stressed that women were created for far more than childbearing and domestic roles. According to her, they must make meaningful contributions to society through purpose and productivity.
“Like yourself and invest in yourself. If the totality of your spending is based on your husband, you are a waste. Don’t let your life be based on Sexually Transmitted Money (STM),” Felix-Adejumo said.
The bishop encouraged women to deepen their relationship with God, discover their talents, and sharpen relevant skills. She advocated for creating passive income streams and making wise investments.
Humility, gratitude, and openness to correction remain essential for any woman aiming for greatness, she added. Women should also build healthy relationships while refusing to let anyone diminish their worth.
Felix-Adejumo urged belief in self and celebration of personal achievements. She cautioned strongly against immoral relationships for financial gain.
“Love the Lord, serve the Lord and be passionate about God. You can’t be sleeping around with men to have money. Keep your dignity and don’t let anybody mess you up, but firmly believe in yourself,” she stated.
Her message aligns with her long-standing advocacy for women's empowerment. As president of the Funke Felix-Adejumo Foundation, she has supported initiatives like orphanages, hospitals, and widows’ schemes across communities.
Public reactions on X (formerly Twitter) have been largely supportive, with many users praising her directness. The speech echoes similar calls by other Nigerian faith leaders for women to prioritise financial stability before or within marriage.
No major controversies have trailed this specific address. Felix-Adejumo, married to Bishop Felix Remi Adejumo, is known for her bold teachings on womanhood, purpose, and faith.
Critics of full financial dependence often argue it leaves women vulnerable in strained marriages. The bishop's words highlight partnership over total reliance, pushing women toward self-sufficiency without rejecting marital support.
Her foundation work demonstrates practical application of these principles. She continues to inspire through books, coaching, and public speaking on high performance and purposeful living.
Women seeking greater heights, she implied, must reject complacency. The call resonates amid ongoing national conversations about gender roles, economic pressures, and family dynamics in Nigeria.
