Nigerian content creator Carter Efe has mocked Babcock University’s threat of legal action over an alleged forged certificate. The skit maker and streamer claimed a First Class Upper degree in Biochemistry from the institution.
Babcock University issued a public statement distancing itself from the document. The university clarified it does not award “First Class Upper” classifications or honorary certificates for undergraduate performance.
The controversy erupted after Carter Efe shared the purported certificate online. This followed an interview with fellow creator Egungun of Lagos, where he boasted about his academic achievements.
In a recent livestream, Carter Efe addressed the university directly. “Babcock, I hear say Babcock una dey look for me. Una no go see me,” he said.
He continued, “Before una go see me, una go pay N100,000 for ticket, and we are coming to Babcock soon.” The remarks drew cheers from those around him during the broadcast.
The university warned that forged documents could lead to legal and criminal action. It urged the public, employers, and institutions to verify credentials through official channels.
Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, has not issued a formal response beyond the livestream comments. The situation has sparked discussions on social media about academic integrity and celebrity claims.
Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) reflect divided opinions. Some users criticize the university’s response as excessive, while others support verification of credentials.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over the misuse of institutional names in public discourse. Babcock University emphasized its commitment to protecting its academic reputation.
As developments unfold, both parties have yet to provide further official updates. The public continues to monitor the exchange closely.
