Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has been laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. The ceremony took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The 40-year-old star passed away on May 11, 2026, after a private battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His family confirmed the cause of death at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.
Family, friends, and colleagues gathered for the burial rites. The remains arrived in Arochukwu the previous day, sparking emotional scenes at the family compound in Ujari Village.
Actors such as IK Ogbonna, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Bimbo Ademoye, and Deyemi Okanlawon were among those in attendance. Comedian Ayo Makun also paid his respects.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti joined the mourners. He described Ekubo as a cultural ambassador and reportedly facilitated road improvements leading to the family home.
Omoni Oboli shared a heartfelt tribute after the burial. “We’ve laid our bestie Alexx to rest to the glory of God. Thank you Jesus!” she posted.
In honor of Ekubo, Oboli announced the release of their movie The First Lady on her YouTube channel. Proceeds from the film will support his family. “Alexx You came! You saw! You conquered!” she added.
