Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, has reacted sharply to President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address on June 12.
Tinubu had told bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror to surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian state. He added that windows of surrender would not remain open forever.
VeryDarkMan expressed deep scepticism about the president’s message. He argued that pleading with criminals to surrender suggests a lack of clear strategy.
“Again this is why I don't have hope in Tinubu ending insecurity in Nigeria,” VeryDarkMan said. He questioned how asking bandits to surrender allows them to continue operations in the meantime.
The activist urged immediate decisive action instead of repeated calls. “If you don’t know what to do, this is the time to move in,” he stated in a widely circulated video.
His comments come as Nigeria continues to battle persistent banditry and abductions across several northern states. Public frustration has grown despite government assurances.
Tinubu had assured that the government would never succumb to terror or banditry. He pledged intensified efforts by security forces to restore order.
Critics, including VeryDarkMan, point to the failure to fully contain the crisis. Many Nigerians demand stronger results beyond ultimatums.
Reactions on social media platforms like X amplified the activist’s views. Supporters echoed concerns that words alone have not stemmed the violence.
VeryDarkMan’s intervention highlights broader discontent with the administration’s security handling. He has previously called for accountability on similar issues.
