Popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, has taken a bold step in giving back to his roots by sponsoring a major road repair project in his community. The work is ongoing in Obi Nkita/Ali Agwor, a neighborhood in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Videos circulating on social media on August 6, 2025 show Sabinus on-site, supervising construction workers operating heavy machinery as they level the road and fill potholes. In the clips, the award-winning entertainer is seen engaging with a presumed site engineer while inspecting the progress of the work.
The project has attracted significant attention online, with many Nigerians applauding his initiative for improving local infrastructure. Supporters praise him for stepping in where government agencies have lagged, while others argue that road construction should remain the responsibility of public officials, not private citizens.
On X (formerly Twitter), reactions have been mixed. Some hailed Sabinus as a role model for successful individuals to emulate, while others questioned the state of governance that leaves celebrities to handle basic infrastructure needs. One user wrote, “That’s good of him… wealthy individuals should also step up,” while another lamented, “Are they supposed to sit back and allow a private citizen use his money to fix roads?”
The comedian’s act is the latest example of a Nigerian celebrity directly funding a community project. Whether viewed as an act of goodwill or a reflection of systemic government failure, the road repairs in Obi Nkita/Ali Agwor have cemented Sabinus’ reputation as more than just a source of laughter, he’s now a source of change.
