Lagos traffic already feels like a contact sport. Add fame to the mix and it can turn dangerous fast.

A disturbing video that exploded across X today captures exactly that moment for comedian Samuel Bankz.

The skit maker, still enjoying the shine from buying his black Mercedes GLE earlier this year, found himself trapped in Ikoyi when a car spotter decided boundaries don’t exist.

The young man, branded “YL in Lagos” across his content, runs straight at him and shouts “Samuel bank! This is Samuel Banks!” over and over.

Bankz looks nothing like the funny man we know from screens. His face is tight, eyes darting, hand waving the spotter away. Clear discomfort. Clear fear.

But the spotter doesn’t stop. He walks alongside him, still yelling, and recording until Samuel Banks Mercedes GLE crawls past to pick him Samuel Banks.

In thirty uncomfortable seconds, the clip has already racked up over 300,000 views and thousands of furious reactions.

“Bro was looking like they wanted to rob him,” one user wrote. Another added, “This is no longer spotting, this is harassment.”

Many pointed out the scary reality: in Lagos traffic, a celebrity stuck at a light is an easy target for anyone with bad intentions.

Car spotting started as harmless admiration, young guys filming expensive rides and shouting out owners who wave back. But the line has blurred.

When the economy bites hard, some spotters now chase clout, cash, or both. A few celebrities have quietly started paying them off just to drive away in peace.

Samuel Bankz didn’t pay. He didn’t smile for the camera either. He simply tried to escape a situation that felt more threatening than flattering.

As the Mercedes finally pulls away, the spotter is left jogging behind, still filming, still shouting a name that suddenly sounded less like praise and more like a warning.

Fans are now asking the same question: how much of your life do you owe strangers just because you made them laugh online?

In a city where everyone is hustling, the video feels like a mirror, one that Lagos might not want to look into for too long.
