Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists. The operation took place in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The action followed credible intelligence about a planned attack on the Sabarumawa community. Troops from the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 responded swiftly.
They established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route. As the group approached, soldiers engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
Superior firepower forced the terrorists into disarray. Two were neutralised while others fled into the surrounding forest.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, confirmed the details in a statement. He said the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.
Danja noted the operation disrupted what could have been a deadly assault on civilians. No casualties were recorded among the troops.
This incident highlights ongoing military efforts to counter Lakurawa activities in the North West. The group has been active in Kebbi and Sokoto border areas.
Social media reactions on X echoed the reports, with users sharing official updates from accounts like Daily Post Nigeria and Nigeria Stories. Many praised the swift response based on intelligence.
Danja reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA. He urged residents to provide timely information to security agencies.
The development comes amid sustained operations against terrorist and criminal elements in the region. Authorities continue to intensify pressure on such groups.
Residents in affected areas expressed cautious relief. Security experts view such ambushes as key to degrading operational capabilities.
The Nigerian Army has not released further details on the identities of the neutralised terrorists. Investigations into the group’s networks remain active.
