The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed claims circulating online that Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, was declared wanted. A viral poster, which surfaced on social media earlier this week, alleged that the award-winning actress was being sought by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Force clarified that the so-called “wanted notice” was not issued by any official police channel. The NPF described the document as fake, misleading, and mischievous, urging the public to disregard it.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin… stating that the Nollywood Actress, Iyabo Ojo, is wanted by the Office of the IGP Monitoring Unit is NOT an official communication from the Force,” the statement read.
Police authorities further noted that investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the fabricated document and bring the culprits behind the viral misinformation to book.
The Force also appealed to Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming and sharing content on social media, stressing the importance of verifying information through official police channels before believing or amplifying such reports.
Iyabo Ojo, a celebrated figure in Nollywood and popular influencer, has yet to make a public statement regarding the fake poster. However, the clarification from the Police has already reassured her fans, many of whom had expressed concern after the misleading bulletin went viral.
With this clarification, the NPF reiterated its commitment to transparency, urging the public to rely only on updates issued through verified platforms such as the official Police website and social
media handles.
