Television host Morayo Afolabi-Brown has spoken out after receiving a disturbing phone call. An unknown caller rained curses on her over questions asked during interviews on her show.
The incident came to light on July 3 when she shared a video on Instagram. Brown expressed shock at the personal attack, noting she does not typically encounter such language.
“I got a call from somebody who rained curses on me. She said, she said, she said, and so many other unprintable words,” she recounted. Brown questioned the motive behind the outburst.
“What’s my sin? The kind of questions I ask guests or the names I call during my interviews?” she asked. She highlighted her long career as justification for her approach.
“I’ve been in the media for 21 years. I’ve been on television for 12 years, every single day, Monday to Friday, hosting a TV show,” Brown stated. “There are only a handful of Nigerians who have that experience.”
“If there’s anybody in this country that has the right to ask anybody any kind of question, it is I. I’ve earned it,” she added firmly. Brown emphasized respect for guest boundaries while insisting questioning remains central to journalism.
Her comments follow recent backlash over interviews, including with Ireti Doyle on her divorce and Toyin Abraham regarding industry matters. These exchanges drew public scrutiny.
Brown clarified her show focuses on love and joy rather than bashing. She noted some guests receive questions beforehand while others set topic limits.
Social media reactions have been mixed, with some users supporting her stance on journalistic freedom and others referencing ongoing debates around her interview topics. No further details on the caller have emerged.
The episode underscores tensions between media professionals and audiences sensitive to probing inquiries. Brown maintained that asking questions defines her role.
