Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has reignited conversations around gender roles in marriage with his blunt remarks.

On The Honest Bunch podcast in December 2025, the controversial artist declared he does not believe wealthy women can submit from the heart.

"You cannot tell me that a woman that is worth multi millions will be submissive to her husband. I don't believe that. Power does not like to submit," he stated.

Darlington argued men should maintain financial dominance to avoid power struggles. He openly prefers "supportive" women over highly independent ones.

The comments quickly spread across social media, drawing mixed reactions. Many users accused him of outdated views on marriage, while others defended traditional dynamics.

Critics highlighted that his stance dismisses successful women's capacity for partnership. Supporters, however, echoed concerns about balance in relationships where finances shift power.

This is not Darlington's first brush with controversy. The singer has built a reputation for provocative statements on relationships, often clashing with modern feminist perspectives.

His latest take adds to ongoing debates about submission, provision, and equality in Nigerian marriages.

Observers note the remarks reflect deeper societal tensions as more women achieve financial independence.

Darlington's position remains firm, positioning himself as unapologetic on matters of preference in love and power.
