(INEC) is focused on two major activities: the upcoming FCT Area Council elections and the ongoing nationwide voter registration.

Here is the breakdown of the latest news from INEC

With only about 46 days left until the elections in the Federal Capital Territory, INEC has ramped up its preparations:

Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment: The INECPRES portal is currently open for the recruitment of election staff. They are looking for Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPO), Presiding Officers (PO), and Assistant Presiding Officers (APO).
Candidate Lists: INEC has officially published the final list of candidates for the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions across the six area councils (Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali).

The nationwide CVR exercise is active and will remain open until August 30, 2026.

Registration Progress: INEC recently reported that over two million Nigerians have successfully registered in the first phase of this cycle.
Eligibility: The exercise is for Nigerians who have recently turned 18, those who have never registered before, or those who need to transfer their voting location or replace lost/damaged PVCs.
Online Portal: You can still start your registration online at cvr.inecnigeria.org before visiting a physical center for your biometrics.

New Leadership Vows: The newly confirmed INEC leadership, including Prof. Joash Amupitan, has publicly committed to solving "recurring logistics challenges" (such as the late arrival of materials) ahead of the off-cycle elections in 2026 and the 2027 General Elections

Regional Cooperation: INEC recently hosted a delegation from the Benin Republic (CENA) to share "electoral insights" and technology strategies as Benin prepares for its own landmark elections in 2026.

August 30, 2026: Deadline for the current phase of Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration.
Late 2026: Upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
