Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused his former ally, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, of secretly volunteering to undermine the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
During a media chat in Ibadan on December 23, 2025, Makinde recounted a post-2023 election meeting with President Bola Tinubu, attended by Wike, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and others.
There, Makinde claimed, Wike boldly told the President: "Sir, I will hold PDP for you against 2027."
Makinde said he was stunned, as the pledge was unsolicited and unagreed upon by PDP stakeholders.
He immediately confronted Wike privately: "Did we agree to this?"
The governor emphasized that while Wike has the right to back Tinubu, he refuses to join any move risking a one-party state.
Makinde declared he regrets supporting Tinubu in 2023 and will not do so again in 2027, prioritizing PDP's survival.
He even took a subtle jab, noting his own business success: at 29 in 1997, he earned $1 million, while "Wike perhaps just left law school."
The once-close G5 governors, who rebelled against Atiku in 2023 now stand divided.
Wike fired back on December 29, 2025, during his Port Harcourt media briefing, calling Makinde's story a "blatant lie."
He insisted the only gathering was a mere courtesy visit, not a political plot.
Wike questioned why Makinde never raised it with PDP leaders at the time and suggested bitterness over unfulfilled ambitions.
This explosive exchange highlights deepening PDP fractures, with factions battling for control.
As 2027 approaches, whispers of ambitions, betrayals, and realignments grow louder.
Will this rift reshape Nigeria's opposition landscape? One thing is clear: old alliances are crumbling fast.
