Nigerian street-pop sensation Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, walked out of prison on Monday, January 19, 2026, after nine days in detention, sparking immediate celebrations among his loyal fans.
The controversy erupted on New Year's Day (January 1, 2026) at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State, where a heated confrontation with his baby mama, actress Ashabi Simple (real name Akinyanju Omobolarinde), escalated. Ashabi alleged that Portable assaulted her, her brother, and police officers, including a female inspector, while also refusing to return a Mercedes-Benz E300 (valued at around ₦12 million) she claimed to have paid for.
Ashabi later explained her decision to report him: "He threatened us with an object... seized our phones and created fear." Portable, in viral videos from custody, appeared emotional and pleaded his case, denying the allegations.
Arraigned on January 12, 2026, before a Federal High Court in Ota on a nine-count charge including assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest, the judge denied bail due to the absent assaulted officer. He was remanded until January 19 for bail consideration.
Adding to the drama, while Portable was behind bars, his first wife Omowunmi (Omobewaji) gave birth to their fourth child around January 15-17, a moment she celebrated online as a "victory" upon his release.
Upon regaining freedom on N1 million bail, Portable was spotted partying with his crew, rapping and sporting a fresh haircut. His manager announced: "All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed #Freedom."
Fans flooded social media with cheers and jokes about his chaotic reputation, predicting more headlines ahead. The case continues, with future hearings pending.
