In a move that's reignited the spotlight on the tragic death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, his family has released a bombshell statement demanding clarity on his son's paternity and the truth behind his untimely passing.
The Aloba family, led by Mohbad's father Joseph Aloba and head Mrs. Adedara Felicia Omolayo Aloba, issued the declaration around November 11-12, 2025, following a resolution on October 10. They renew calls for a thorough investigation into the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, who died on September 12, 2023, at age 27 under mysterious circumstances.
At the heart of the drama is Mohbad's widow, Cynthia Omowunmi Adebanjo, known as Wunmi. The family directs her to drop the Aloba surname until a court-ordered DNA test confirms their son Liam's paternity. They clarify no legal or customary marriage occurred, as Yoruba rites like bride price payment were incomplete despite an introduction and plans.

Whispers of family tension have swirled since Mohbad's burial was halted, his body exhumed for autopsy and left in a Lagos morgue for nearly two years amid disputes. The statement appoints Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., as sole legal rep for DNA and estate matters, and Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, for the death probe. Three administrators, Samuel Ajewole Aloba, Engr. Ayodele Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Mrs. Alonge Ibukun Oluwaseun Aloba will handle assets, with a spot reserved for Wunmi if paternity is proven.
The family emphasizes the DNA test is for fairness in estate distribution, including royalties and intellectual property from Mohbad's music career, post his split from Marlian Music.
Wunmi's lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, fired back on November 12, calling the surname ban "illegal and sentimental." He accused the Alobas of stalling the DNA process despite court orders, citing withdrawals, lawyer changes, and demands for overseas testing. "Wunmi is ready any time," he insisted, referencing Supreme Court precedents on surname rights.
This feud stems from Mohbad's controversial exit from Naira Marley's label in 2022 and public outcries over his death. Police launched a probe in September 2023, but delays persist.
The family promises a new burial date once legal hurdles clear, urging fans for patience. As the saga unfolds, questions linger: Will the DNA test bring closure or more scandal? Mohbad's legacy hangs in the balance.
