The Fuji maestro who has spent decades making Nigeria dance now wants to make Ijebuland bow.
On December 3, 2025, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, dropped a bombshell letter addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House: he is coming for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
The throne has been empty since the revered Oba Sikiru Adetona joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, after 65 glorious years. By tradition, it is the turn of the Fusengbuwa house to produce the next king.
KWAM 1, 68, claims he is a direct descendant of the sacred Oba Jadiara lineage inside that same house. He reminded everyone of the titles the late Awujale personally bestowed on him, Otunba Afidipotemole, Olori Omo-Oba, and argued his global influence would modernize yet protect the throne.
But blood is thicker than fame.
On December 7, the head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Abdul-Lateef Owoyemi, fired back publicly: “We welcome men of influence, but first prove you are family.”
Every aspirant, including the music legend, must now fill a seven-generation royal lineage form and face verification by the family unit heads. “No strangers will sit on this stool,” Owoyemi warned.
Social media is already on fire. Some fans hail KWAM 1 as the modern king Ijebu needs; others call it the ultimate celebrity overreach.
Meanwhile, at least three other princes, Ophthalmologist Adekunle Hassan, engineer Babatunde Alatise, and young Olaseni Ottun, have quietly declared.
The ruling house has until December 18 to submit nominees. Kingmakers, governor approval, and possible court cases will follow.
One thing is certain: the race for Africa’s most prestigious Yoruba throne just turned into the juiciest royal drama of the decade.
Will the King of Fuji become the King of Ijebu?
Or will the palace gate slam shut on the man who once opened stadium gates with just a microphone?
Watch this throne.
