On November 12, 2025, panic spread across Nigerian Instagram timelines: popular influencer Barbiecue had reportedly died after a tragic fall.
The post, complete with a heartbreaking story about slipping while helping a stranger with a baby, looked real enough to fool thousands.
Within minutes, mourning messages and “RIP” posts flooded comment sections.
But it was all fake.
Barbiecue, whose real handle is @Barbiecue_girl, quickly discovered her account had been hacked. The death announcement was nothing more than a cruel prank.
She wasted no time. A furious voice note began circulating where she confirmed she was very much alive and called out everyone who rushed to believe the worst.
“You all are fake people,” she said, voice shaking with anger and tears. “None of you even tried to confirm. You heard bad news and immediately believed it.”
Later, at exactly 2:14 a.m., she took to X and poured out her heart: “Been here crying my eyes out since last night. None of you love me. Y’all so desperate to see me down.”
The post struck a nerve. Some fans sent love and apologies. Others doubled down, dragging up old accusations of her “faking” surgeries and dramas in the past.
Yet the bigger conversation quickly shifted to something darker, how quickly Nigerians celebrate bad news about public figures, especially controversial ones.
