Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake's triumphant post-concert street tour in Accra took an unexpected turn when a local fan's over-the-top celebration sparked controversy.
On December 28, 2025, after headlining the AfroFuture Festival, Asake cruised through neighborhoods like Accra New Town, tossing cash and greeting cheering crowds.
In one viral moment, Abubakari Sadick, known as "Cyborg" or "Paa Nii Cyborg," a popular street figure, stood beside the singer and addressed the crowd.
He acknowledged that "warning shots are not allowed in Ghana," called Asake his "brother from another mother," and pleaded with authorities, including President John Dramani Mahama, for leniency.
Then, he hoisted a registered rifle and fired multiple rounds into the air as a "gunshot salute." The crowd erupted in cheers, with Asake and his entourage appearing amused.
The video exploded online, drawing outrage over public safety risks.
By December 29, police arrested Cyborg in Adenta, seizing the firearm. He's in custody facing charges under Ghana's Arms and Ammunition Act.
The drama peaked on December 30 when Asake met President Mahama at a supercar event.
Mahama, spotting the star, quipped: "Oh, so he's the one the guy fired the gun for?" Asake reportedly appealed for mercy, expressing regret, but the President firmly replied, "The law is the law."
Insiders whisper Asake pushed passionately for Cyborg's release, highlighting the singer's charm across borders.
Yet, with investigations ongoing, it seems even star power has limits when bullets fly.
